Archaeopteryx , sometimes referred to by its German name, "Urvogel" (lit. Primeval Bird), is a genus of bird-like dinosaurs. The name derives from the ancient Greek ἀρχαῖος (archaīos), meaning "ancient", and πτέρυξ (ptéryx), meaning "feather" or "wing".
