I suppose in theory you are best off with a shell that exactly fits the chamber to minimize blowby. Also, in theory the longer chamber might lower pressures (and also velocity) to a minuscule degree.

Like the poster above stated - do not recommend folks use the longer shells. Would you shoot a 3 1/2" shell in a 2 3/4" chamber? It is rather doubtful so what is the difference. Stick to what the design calls for.
WebJun 20, 2016 · Using a 2-3/4″ shell in a 2-3/4″ chamber, the thickness of the lips of the hull sort of reduce the abruptness of the forcing cone. The thicker the hull (paper vs plastic) the less the violence of the transition from hull to cone. I keep saying “in theory” because I’m not sure if it matters much in the real world.
