There are three 8in combo's of balancer and tab- 12:00, 2:00, and something else up to 1969. This is a late model 5.7L roller block with one piece rear seal with Scat stroker crank and oem style 400 balancer. WebSep 23, 2002 · You can make a check, which is a good idea anyway since balancers have been known to shift, buy putting a piston stop in #1 cylinder and turning the engine clockwise (removing the all the plugs will make this easier), then make a mark on the balancer in line with TDC on the tag.

I think with an 8" balancer, it should be in the 12 o'clock position. Anyone know for sure? All early small blocks had the timing mark at roughly 30° clockwise from straight up (or roughly 2:30 o'clock position looking at the front of the motor) Later small blocks from the late 80's and 90's moved the timing mark to nearly straight up (actually about 8-10° CCW from straight up or about 11 'clock).
